Rexroth IndraDrive Cs with Safe Torque Off (STO)

Rexroth has enhanced the functionality of its IndraDrive Cs servo line by adding STO (Safe Torque Off) functions which were certified on September 2010 along with SBC (Safe Brake Control).
The IndraDrive Cs compact family of drives is targeted at the performance range between 0.1 kW and 9 kW. Features such as the Multi-Ethernet communications port deliver extensive functionality in a small footprint.

Following certification, the IndraDrive Cs with STO/SBC functionality meets the requirements of Cat 4 PL e as defined in EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL 3 as defined in EN 62061. When the STO function is activated, the drive immediately cuts off the current which generates the torque and field in the motor. That eliminates the possibility of unintended motion when the machine is stopped. SBC is activated in the drive when the STO function is accessed. SBC activates the motor's holding brake, providing an additional mechanical block to prevent the motor from starting.

These safety functions are available for all performance classes and levels in the IndraDrive Cs family including the most recent “ECONOMY” performance level. This compact, low-cost member of the IndraDrive servo family offers substantial servo functionality for most servo drive applications.

New PLC family: IndraLogic XLC from Rexroth

With IndraLogic XLC (eXtended Logic Control), Rexroth presents a new family of PLC controllers whose capabilities go far beyond the familiar PLC standard functions. Users can leverage a wide range of new functions that realize modular software projects quicker than before. All planning, configuration, programming and diagnostic functions are standardized in one single engineering environment. Flexible motion control functions are already integrated. IndraLogic XLC can be connected into different communication networks thanks to real-time communication via SERCOS III and other common communication interfaces.

IndraLogic XLC enables scalable, controller-based and embedded PC solutions in conjunction with the latest IndraControl device platform. IPC-based hardware variants will round off the device portfolio in 2011.

Rexroth advanced the PLC programming together with technology partner Smart Software Solutions (3S). The PLC basis kernel from CoDeSys V3 was integrated homogeneously into the IndraWorks software tool and the multitasking runtime system. This allows users to take advantage of many new functions that allow modular software projects to be created in an end-to-end overall system in less time than before. Functions include convenient editor tools, object orientation as an extension to IEC 61131-3, and comprehensive function libraries as well as fast compilers for efficient generation of machine codes. The modular GATcompact (Generic Application Template) project template simplifies the process of realizing new machines with enhanced software quality while reducing effort considerably.

End-to-end communication between the controller and decentralized system peripherals, such as inputs and outputs or drives, takes place via real-time Ethernet SERCOS III. Fast PLC cycles to 250 µs enable optimum response times for handling time-critical process signals. IndraLogic XLC controllers come with versatile motion control functions, integrated into the run-time systems, to enhance the previous IndraLogic systems.

Applications cover the simple commanding of single axes, to synchronization of multiple axes, through to integrating FlexProfile for implementing complex motion sequences. The graphical profile editor in the IndraWorks software tool offers numerous offline and online functions for this purpose.
Master and slave interfaces for PROFINET RT, PROFIBUS and EtherNet/IP are available, in addition to SERCOS III, to facilitate integration into a wide range of communication networks.

New controllers for PLC/motion and CNC applications from Rexroth

With the new IndraControl L25 and L85 controllers, Rexroth presents two additional hardware platforms for motion logic systems. Whereas the IndraControl L25 supplements the company's controllers for medium-power PLC and motion control applications, the IndraControl L85 meets very demanding requirements for CNC applications.

The new IndraControl L25 represents a further function and code-compatible platform for PLC applications in conjunction with the IndraLogic XLC system solution and for motion applications in conjunction with the controller-based IndraMotion MLC motion logic system solution.

The high-performance IndraControl L85 controller is a platform for CNC applications that is capable of meeting ultra-high requirements with respect to processing time. Equipped with a dual-core processor, the platform introduces an additional CNC performance class based on the CNC system solution IndraMotion MTX advanced. Intelligent distribution of resources on the CPU cores enables genuine parallel processing of CNC and PLC functions.

Both controllers feature communication interfaces as master or slave for SERCOS III, PROFINET RT, EtherNet/IP and PROFIBUS and support the same Inline I/O modules as the established control platforms of the IndraControl L series. Additional functions and auxiliary communication interfaces are provided as function modules.

The entire engineering workflow, including configuration of the controller, is defined uniformly in the IndraWorks software tool. The new IndraControl L25 and L85 controllers integrate into existing automation solutions from Rexroth in a homogeneous and compatible manner.

New SERCOS III I/O module from Rexroth for controlling the position of hydraulic axes

The new compact module from the inline I/O family links all peripheries, via SERCOS III, for controlling the position of up to four hydraulic axes. Extremely short response times and fieldbus communication with SERCOS III enable the SERCOS III I/O module to offer high control quality and faster cycle times in the application. The functions of the compact module are intricately coordinated and make it possible to realize applications economically and flexibly.

The SERCOS III I/O module with IP 20 protection features twelve analog differential inputs for connecting pressure measuring boxes and capturing valve actual values. Four analog outputs are also included for defining valve command values as are four SSI encoder inputs for capturing the position of the hydraulic axes.

The analog inputs and outputs for capturing and outputting current and voltage signals, with 16-bit resolution, and the encoder inputs, with up to 31-bit resolution, can be individually configured.
